1. Acceptance of these terms

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Paints website, the Paints community waitlist, our forthcoming mobile applications, and any related services (together, the "Service") provided by Paints Animation Ltd ("Paints", "we", "us", "our"). By joining the waitlist, creating an account, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. About Paints

Paints is a London-based community for meaningful connections through community experiences — including supper clubs, art events, vinyl listening sessions, museum visits, market Sundays, community walks and games nights. Our public launch date will be announced separately on our website and to subscribers of our waitlist. Features may vary by region, device, and account tier, and may be added, changed, or removed at our discretion.

3. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
  • You may not use the Service if you are prohibited from doing so under any applicable law, or if your account or access has previously been suspended or terminated.
  • By using the Service you confirm that the information you provide about yourself is accurate, current, and complete.
  • By creating an account you confirm that you have not been convicted of a serious offence, a sexual offence, or a violent offence (other than a pardoned non-violent offence), and that you do not pose a risk to other members.

4. Your account

  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at contact@paints.app if you suspect unauthorised use.
  • We may refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that we reasonably believe present a risk to other users, partners, or to the Service.

We may, at any time, ask you to verify your age or identity with government-issued photo ID, including at sign-up, before your first event, or following a report. Refusal to verify may result in suspension or termination.

5. Waitlist sign-up

Joining the waitlist gives you the opportunity to receive launch updates and an early invitation when the Service opens. Waitlist sign-up does not entitle you to any specific benefit, place, or pricing, and a sign-up may be removed if we believe it was made fraudulently or in breach of these Terms. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any waitlist email or by contacting us.

6. Subscriptions & in-app purchases

6.1 Billing through app stores

Paid subscriptions and in-app purchases offered through our mobile applications are billed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their respective terms. Pricing, currency, taxes, and available billing periods are displayed on the purchase screen before you confirm.

6.2 Auto-renewal

Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date through your App Store or Google Play account settings. We do not control the renewal mechanism and cannot issue refunds on the app stores' behalf.

6.3 Cancellation & refunds

You can cancel a subscription at any time through your App Store or Google Play account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period and you will retain access until then. Refund requests are handled by the relevant app store under their refund policies; we may, at our discretion, assist with such requests but are not obligated to do so.

6.4 Founding member and promotional offers

We may offer founding-member pricing, trial periods, discounts, and other promotions. The specific terms of each offer — eligibility, duration, the price during the offer, and the price after the offer ends — will be presented at the time of purchase and form part of these Terms.

Where we describe a founding-member price as locked for a defined period (for example, twelve months from the date of subscription), the locked price applies for that period to all founding members who subscribed before the founding allocation closed, regardless of any general price change made under clause 6.6. After the locked period ends, the standard price in effect at the time will apply, and clause 6.6 will govern any future change.

6.5 Pause & resume

Where supported, you may temporarily pause your subscription through the Service. While paused, premium features may be unavailable; the subscription resumes automatically at the end of the pause window unless cancelled.

6.6 Changes to pricing

We may change subscription prices for future billing periods. We will give you reasonable advance notice through the Service, by email, or by other appropriate means. If you do not accept the new price, you may cancel before the next renewal.

7. Cancellation, no-shows, and +1s

7.1 Cancelling a reservation

You can cancel a reservation through the app up to the cancellation deadline displayed for each event. Cancelling before the deadline returns the reservation to availability with no penalty.

7.2 Late cancellations

A cancellation made after the deadline counts as a late cancellation. Three or more late cancellations within any rolling 60-day period may result in suspension of your account.

7.3 No-shows

If you do not attend an event you have reserved, and you have not cancelled 24 hours before the deadline, this is treated as a no-show. No-shows are confirmed by your group members, the host, or the venue.

A confirmed no-show may result in:

  • In the event of a no show without notification paints can unilaterally freeze the account.

7.4 +1 guests

Some Paints formats allow you to bring a +1, including museum trails, gallery openings, and larger cultural socials. Smaller intimate formats — such as supper clubs, vinyl listening sessions, and show-and-tell dinners — do not allow +1s. The app will tell you which rule applies to each event before you book.

A +1 must be registered through the app and must accept these Terms. Bringing an unannounced guest may result in immediate removal from the event and suspension of your account.

8. Your right to cancel within 14 days

8.1 Statutory right of withdrawal

If you are a UK consumer, you have the right to cancel your initial subscription contract with Paints within 14 calendar days of the day you start it, without giving a reason.

8.2 How to cancel

To exercise this right, contact us at contact@paints.app within 14 days of subscribing, making clear that you wish to cancel. You can use the Model Cancellation Form set out at the end of these Terms, but you don't have to.

8.3 Refunds

If you cancel within the 14-day period and have not used the Service, we will refund the full subscription fee within 14 days, using the original payment method.

If you asked for the Service to begin during the 14-day period and you cancel before it ends, we will refund the subscription fee less a pro-rata amount reflecting the portion of the billing period already used.

8.4 Refunds for App Store and Google Play purchases

Subscriptions purchased through Apple's App Store or Google Play are billed by Apple or Google. Refund requests for these subscriptions must be made through the relevant store under their refund policies. We can assist but we cannot issue these refunds ourselves. This does not affect your statutory rights.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, or infringing purpose.
  • Harass, threaten, impersonate, or abuse other users, Paints staff, partner venues, or event hosts.
  • Upload, post, or share content that is unlawful, defamatory, hateful, sexually explicit (where prohibited), or that violates the rights of others.
  • Attempt to circumvent paywalls, eligibility checks, subscription limits, or any technical access control.
  • Interfere with the Service, introduce malware, scrape data at scale, reverse-engineer the apps, or use the Service to train competing models without our written permission.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit access to the Service without our written permission.

If you become aware of any breach of these Terms or our Community Guidelines, please report it to safety@paints.app or through the in-app Report feature. Reports are confidential.

10. Your content

You may submit content to the Service — for example, profile details, taste responses, event check-ins, reviews, photos, messages, or feedback (collectively, "Your Content"). You retain ownership of Your Content. By submitting it, you grant Paints a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, display, and use Your Content strictly to operate, improve, and promote the Service. We may remove content that, in our reasonable judgement, violates these Terms or applicable law.

11. Event photography and your image

Paints captures photographs, video, and audio at some events for use in marketing, social media, editorial content, and member communications.

When you attend a Paints event, you grant Paints a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to use your image, your first name (unless we agree otherwise), and your voice, in content captured at that event, for the purposes of promoting and operating the Service. This licence lasts for the duration of your membership and for three years after it ends, after which we will use reasonable efforts to remove your identifiable image from active marketing channels.

We will:

  • tell you in advance when an event will be photographed or filmed;
  • offer you a way to opt out at the event (for example, a wristband, a position outside the camera frame, or a private note to the host);
  • remove an identifiable image of you from a channel under our control on reasonable written request to contact@paints.app, subject to material already in print or distributed beyond our control.

This clause does not cover photos and video that members take of each other. Members are responsible for getting one another's consent before sharing.

12. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its name, branding, logos, illustrations, typography, code, UI, copy, and curated experiences, is owned by Paints or its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. Except as expressly permitted in these Terms, you may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service.

13. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers — for example, Google Firebase for backend services and analytics, email providers for waitlist and transactional messages, Apple and Google for in-app purchases, and our venue and event partners. Your use of features that depend on these providers is also subject to their terms and privacy practices. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of third-party providers.

If you obtain the Service through Apple's App Store or Google Play, you also agree to Apple's or Google's standard end-user terms in addition to these Terms. If there is a conflict between those terms and these Terms in respect of the app itself, the App Store or Google Play terms take precedence. Paints remains solely responsible for the Service we provide and for handling claims relating to it.

14. Events and venue partners

Some Paints experiences take place in person at partner venues. Attendance is subject to the venue's house rules, capacity, age restrictions, dietary policies, and any other terms communicated to you at booking.

We make no guarantee in respect of:

  • the absence of allergen cross-contamination at a venue;
  • adherence to dietary preferences you have shared with us;
  • a specific group size, age range, or gender balance at any event;
  • compatibility with other members of your group;
  • the availability of any specific menu item at a venue;
  • the suitability of any venue for your particular needs.

If you have allergies or dietary restrictions, please review the venue's menu directly and speak with venue staff on arrival. You accept the ordinary risks of attending public gatherings.

Budget bands

Events on Paints are priced in indicative bands:

  • £ — approximately under £20 per person, based on a main dish with a non-alcoholic drink, excluding starters, sides, desserts, alcoholic drinks, service, and tip.
  • ££ — approximately £20 to £40 per person, on the same basis.
  • £££ — approximately above £40 per person, on the same basis.

These bands are indicative and may shift over time. Members are encouraged to review menus directly to confirm a venue fits their budget.

15. Hosting events on Paints

Paints lets eligible members create and run their own events ("Hosted Events") — for example supper clubs, listening sessions, walks, and games nights — and charge guests for a place. When you create or run a Hosted Event you are a "Host", and this section applies to you in addition to the rest of these Terms. Paints provides the platform that lists your event, takes bookings, and processes payments; Paints does not co-host, supervise, or take responsibility for the event itself. As between you and your guests, you are the provider of the experience.

15.1 Becoming a host

  • You must meet the eligibility requirements in section 3, be at least 18, and keep your account in good standing.
  • We may require you to verify your identity with government-issued photo ID before you publish an event or before your first paid event.
  • To receive payment for paid events, you must connect a Stripe account and complete Stripe's identity and verification (KYC) checks. Until those checks are complete, guest payments are held and your payout is not released.
  • Hosting may draw on the same limited free-event allowance that applies to non-subscribers; once it is used, an active subscription may be required to continue hosting.

15.2 Your event listing

  • Your listing must be accurate, complete, and not misleading — including the title, description, what is included, price, location, date and time, capacity, any age, gender, or group requirements, and any menu, dietary, or allergen information.
  • Your event must be lawful, and you must hold any licences, permits, insurance, and permissions it needs — for example to use a venue, to serve food or alcohol, or to play recorded music.
  • If you provide food or drink, you are responsible for complying with food-safety and allergen law and for disclosing allergens accurately.
  • We may review, edit, decline, unpublish, or remove any listing that breaches these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or the law.

15.3 Pricing, fees, and your payout

You set your ticket price, or you may run a free event. Guests pay the price you list. For paid events, your payout is the price the guest pays less (a) the Paints platform fee and (b) payment-processing fees — in other words, those fees are absorbed from your share rather than added on top of the guest's price.

The platform-fee rate is shown to you before you publish. It may vary by membership tier and may change over time; the rate shown at the time you publish is the rate that applies to that event. Tax on what you earn is your own responsibility — see clause 15.4.

Payouts for completed events are released to your connected Stripe account within 48 hours after the event ends, provided your account is in good standing. After PAINTS releases the payout, Stripe and your bank may take additional time to transfer the money to your bank account according to Stripe’s normal payout schedule. First payouts, verification checks, bank processing times, weekends, holidays, disputes, or account restrictions may cause delays. We may delay, withhold, or reverse a payout where there is a refund obligation, dispute, chargeback, suspected fraud, failed verification, or breach of these Terms.

15.4 Your tax responsibilities

You are responsible for determining, reporting, and paying any tax due on what you earn from Hosted Events — including income tax, VAT, and any other tax or levy that applies in the jurisdiction where you are resident or otherwise required to account for tax. Paints is not your employer, partner, or agent; we do not deduct or pay tax on your behalf; and we do not provide tax advice. If you are unsure of your obligations, seek independent professional advice.

For each paid event, Paints takes its platform fee, processes the payment, and pays you the remainder as your payout (see clause 15.3). That payout is paid to you before your own taxes: how it is taxed, and any registration, return, or payment that follows, is a matter between you and the relevant tax authority in your jurisdiction.

Where the law requires it, we may need to collect tax information from you, report your earnings to a tax authority, or withhold amounts from your payouts. You agree to give us the information we reasonably request for this purpose and to keep it accurate; if you do not, we may withhold your payouts or suspend your ability to host until you do.

15.5 Capacity, guests, and +1s

You set the capacity of your event and whether guests may bring additional people, within the limits the platform allows. Each additional guest is a separate paid place. You must honour every confirmed booking up to your stated capacity.

15.6 Changes, cancellations, and host no-shows

If you cancel a Hosted Event, every paying guest is automatically refunded in full. Because a late cancellation lets your guests down, a host-cancellation penalty may apply — a charge that we recover from your current or future payouts. The basis of the penalty is shown to you in the app and may change from time to time.

If you need to make a material change to an event — its time, place, or what is included — tell your guests promptly. A significant change may entitle guests to cancel and be refunded.

You may mark a confirmed guest who did not attend as a no-show. You are not paid your share for a no-show place, and payment-processing or platform costs may still apply. You must not mark a guest absent dishonestly.

15.7 Running your event responsibly

  • Deliver the experience you advertised, treat guests with respect, follow our Community Guidelines, and keep the event safe and lawful.
  • You are responsible for your venue's suitability, safety, accessibility, and house rules, and for the conduct of anyone who helps you run the event.
  • You must not charge guests more than the listed price, take bookings or payment off-platform to avoid fees, or use information about your guests for any purpose other than running that event.

15.8 Relationship and responsibility

Hosted Events are provided by Hosts, not by Paints. Paints acts as an intermediary that connects Hosts and guests and processes payment, and does not guarantee any host, guest, event, or outcome. Subject to the disclaimers and the limitation of liability below, you are responsible for your event and you agree to indemnify Paints for claims arising out of it. Where an event is described as a "Paints Original", Paints itself is the host and is the provider of that event.

15.9 Suspension of hosting

We may pause or remove your ability to host, unpublish your events, and withhold disputed amounts if you breach these Terms, our Community Guidelines, or the law, or where we reasonably need to protect guests or the Service.

16. Attending events as a guest

When you book a place at an event on Paints — whether a Paints Original or a member-Hosted Event — you are a "guest", and this section applies to you in addition to the rest of these Terms.

16.1 Booking and payment

A booking is a commitment to attend. For paid events you pay the listed price at checkout, and the price you see is the price you pay. If you bring additional guests, each is a separate paid place, and you are responsible for them and for ensuring they accept these Terms. Any credit you hold — for example subscription credit or booking credit — is applied at checkout as shown and is subject to its own limits.

16.2 Who provides your event

Paints Originals are provided by Paints. Member-Hosted Events are provided by the Host, not by Paints: Paints lists the event, takes your booking, and processes your payment. What happens at a Hosted Event — the venue, the food, the activity, and safety on site — is the Host's responsibility.

16.3 Cancellations, refunds, and no-shows

You can cancel up to the deadline shown for each event; see section 7. A cancellation fee may be withheld from your refund where this is disclosed at checkout. Late cancellations and no-shows have consequences, including possible suspension of your account (section 7).

If a Host or Paints cancels an event you have paid for, you are refunded in full to your original payment method. Refund timing depends on your bank, and on the relevant app store where the purchase was made through one (see sections 6 and 8).

16.4 +1s and group rules

Whether you can bring a +1 depends on the event format and the host's settings, and the app tells you which rule applies before you book. Bringing an unannounced guest may result in removal from the event and suspension of your account. See clause 7.4 for detail.

16.5 Conduct, safety, and other guests

Follow our Community Guidelines and the acceptable-use rules in section 9, and treat hosts, other guests, venue staff, and Paints staff with respect.

You will meet people you may not already know. Use your judgement, stay in the public setting of the event, and look after your own safety and belongings. Paints provides safety tools — reporting, blocking, ratings, and an in-app SOS — but we cannot guarantee the conduct of any host or guest, and we do not vet every person you meet. Report any concern to safety@paints.app or through the in-app Report feature. For more, see our Safety page.

If you have allergies or dietary requirements, review the menu and the host's allergen information before you book, and speak to the host or venue staff on arrival; see section 14.

16.6 Ratings and reviews

After an event you may be invited to rate or review it. Be honest and fair, and do not post anything that breaches the acceptable-use rules. We may use, moderate, or remove this content as described in section 10.

16.7 No guarantee of outcome

Paints helps you discover experiences and meet people, but we do not guarantee any particular group, match, connection, or experience. Your decisions about which events to attend and whom to meet are your own. See the disclaimers and the limitation of liability below.

17. How matching works

Paints uses an automated matching engine to suggest events, form groups, and recommend connections. The engine combines the answers you give during onboarding, your stated preferences, your activity on the Service, and the supply of events available in your city.

Automated matching does not produce legal effects on you, nor does it significantly affect you in a comparable way. You retain full control over which events you book and which connections you accept.

If you would like a human review of a match decision, or if you believe the matching engine has produced a result you want to challenge, contact us at contact@paints.app and we will respond within a reasonable time.

18. Support and maintenance

We provide email support at contact@paints.app from Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm UK time, excluding UK public holidays. We aim to respond within two working days; complex matters may take longer.

We carry out scheduled maintenance from time to time, which may temporarily restrict or interrupt access to the Service. Where possible, we will give you advance notice through the app.

19. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, Paints disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. Recommendations, matches, event suggestions, and similar outputs are provided for personal, non-professional purposes and are not guaranteed to be suitable, accurate, complete, or safe in every circumstance. You are responsible for the decisions you make based on the Service. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

20. Limitation of liability

Subject to clause 19, and to the maximum extent permitted by law, Paints, its officers, employees, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with the Service. Our aggregate liability for any direct damages arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid to Paints in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim or (b) GBP 100.

21. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Paints harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and reasonable legal fees arising out of (a) your use of the Service, (b) Your Content, or (c) your violation of these Terms or of any law or third-party right.

22. Suspension & termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or to protect the Service or other users. On termination, sections that by their nature should survive — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law — will survive.

Inactive accounts

If you do not log into the Service for 24 months, we will send a reactivation email to your registered email address. If we do not hear from you within 30 days of that email, we will delete your account and associated personal data, except where we are required by law to retain certain records.

23. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of London, England will have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service, except where applicable law grants you a non-waivable right to bring proceedings elsewhere.

If we cannot resolve a dispute by good-faith negotiation, you may refer it to an alternative dispute resolution provider. We support resolution through the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) at cedr.com. Engaging with ADR is voluntary and does not affect your right to bring proceedings in court.

24. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Service, by email, or by other reasonable means before the changes take effect. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of the updated Terms constitutes acceptance of those changes.

25. Contact us

For any questions about these Terms, contact us at contact@paints.app or by post at Paints Animation Ltd, Park Street, Windsor, Berkshire, SL4 1LB, United Kingdom.
