Safety Guidelines
Paints brings strangers together over community experiences. We want every member to feel safe and look out for one another. These guidelines aren't rules — they're practical things that help every Paints night go well.
Before an event
Tell someone where you're going. Share the venue, time, and your expected arrival with a friend or family member.
Charge your phone. Make sure you can call a taxi or contact someone if plans change.
Check the menu and your needs. If you have allergies or dietary requirements, review the venue's menu in advance and tell the staff when you arrive. Paints communicates dietary needs to venues where possible, but the final responsibility for what you eat is yours.
Carry ID. Some venues will check ID before serving alcohol.
At the event
Arrive on time. Late arrivals are disruptive for the rest of your group.
Watch your drink. Keep your drink and personal belongings in sight. If you step away, order a fresh one when you come back.
Pace yourself. Stay clear-headed enough to make sound decisions.
Trust your instincts. If something feels off — about a person, the room, or the situation — leave. There's no pressure to stay for the whole event, and no penalty for leaving early on safety grounds.
Photos and video. Be considerate. Ask before photographing other attendees. Paints may capture content at some events for marketing — you'll be told in advance and can opt out. See the Event photography clause in our Terms.
Getting home
Plan transport in advance. Know how you're getting home before drinks start flowing.
Don't drive impaired. Use a taxi, rideshare, or public transport if you've been drinking.
Don't accept lifts from people you've just met unless you're confident they're sober and you trust the arrangement.
After the event
Stay in touch through Paints Connect. Use the in-app messaging feature to keep talking to people you clicked with. You don't need to share personal contact details right away.
Be careful with money and information. Don't send money, lend money, share bank or card details, or hand over identity documents to anyone you met through Paints, no matter how convincing the story.
Take dating offline at your own pace. Paints isn't a dating app, but real connections happen. Let a friend know when you're meeting someone again.
If something goes wrong
At the event: Speak to venue staff, leave the situation, and call a friend or local services.
Afterwards: Report the incident to safety@paints.app or through the in-app Report feature. Reports are confidential and reviewed by a human.
In emergencies: Always contact your local emergency services first. In the UK, dial 999. Then let us know so we can support any investigation.
